How Much is Too Much Toothpaste For My Kids Teeth?

This is a common question the kid-friendly dentist staff at The Tooth Station are asked every day, and it’s a very good one. Because babies and toddlers do not know how to spit out their toothpaste, because large doses of fluoride aren’t good for small children, and because toothpaste is very tasty, it is important that you monitor the amount of toothpaste you use for your young children’s preventative dental care.

Below you will see photos of the right amount of children’s fluoridated toothpaste (such as Crest) to use for both infant and toddler. Adult toothpaste will have much more fluoride so these photos would not be appropriate guides. It is also important to keep in mind when thinking about your baby and infant dental health that kids who are already exposed to fluoride via the Sacramento fluoridated water supply or by formula or drops should not use a fluoridated toothpaste.
